old macdonald had a farm

on saturday we went to bate's nut farm. i love bate's nut farm solely for their fudge. aside from cute holiday craft fairs and pumpkin patches, it really has nothing else to offer me. emmy however, loves the petting zoo. i've said it before, and i'll say it again i don't love animals. i take one for the team every now and then just to see the smiles all over my sweet girls' face. we drive up to the farm and we see a bazillion cars, trailers and rv's. a man directing traffic at the entrance informs us that there is a dog show taking place. not my cup of tea, but i'm fairly certain that if emmy imagined heaven at this point in her sweet little life, a dog show would be it. we started with the petting zoo...

the "gucks" are one of Em's very fave.

the turkey: easily one of the most hideous creatures in creation.
sweet husband says that god has a sense of humor.

animal lover.

the gucks say cack cack.

the reason why i endure the ferocious scent of animal from time to time.

bonding with the sheep.

delighted.

baby lando loves animals too.

feeding.

just a dumb ol donkey.

taking a break.

1. 2. 3. swing!

...and off we went to see what this dog show business was all about after purchasing large amounts of fudge first...duh! to be perfectly honest, i don't even know where to start. i didn't quite realize that there was a completely different brand of human that we were sharing the earth with. an obsession with dogs would be an understatement. some of these people were worse than toddler and tiara people! we made our rounds and we saw plenty of dog fur being sprayed, hired professionals to properly poof and fluff, ridiculous human-to-beast pep talks, full grown men in suits prancing their pride and joy around in circles, referring to the animals as their son/daughter and being fully serious about it and all this was completely normal for them. i understand people treating their pets as part of the family, and that's totally valid have you met sweet bob the cat? she is pretty much nielsen royalty but you need to draw the line somewhere. aside from dog show disappointment, it was a lovely time, and oh my goodness gracious that fudge was good.

Sweet pics of a great family day! I LUV that Emmerson shares my love of all creatures great and small, but agree some dog owners are over-the-top about "Best in Show" (shelter mutts are adorable too!)
